About

I’m Emily Compton and I am a multi-media journalism major at the University of Texas at Austin.

I’m in my second year of school and I have been enjoying learning the ropes of journalism so far.

I grew up in Rockwall, Texas with my parents and brothers, loving to read and write. Telling stories has been a passion of mine since I was able to talk. Before I could write, I would walk around in circles in the dining room, telling my stories out loud. And when I did learn, I filled my dad’s Palm Pilot, our family PC and my own notebooks full of fiction and non-fiction.

I first became involved in journalism in high school, writing for my school’s newspaper, The Hawk Eye. While I was there, we made the transition from classic, ink newspaper that we sent to the printer to an online version.

The way the field of journalism is changing really caught my eye then. It made me want to be a part of this exciting, changing world of news. I want to be a part of that change.

When I’m not reading or writing, I enjoy volunteering at my local retirement center, learning new languages and spending time with friends and family.
